Treasure in The Field

Reaching out and giving out the love that Jesus had set an example for anyone to follow is exactly what the short-term missions to the indegenious people of Sarawak is all about. We set out on the 19th-21st March 2010 to Rumah Tatom in Selangau. It is a regularly visited longhouse and comprises the Iban who are mostly Christian by faith. On this trip it coincided with one of the non christian family whose daughter who has completed her Form V secondary education with very good results. They celebrated with a feast and make a sacrifice to their god and we were invited to watch and join them. It was a rare occcasion where this traditional ritual is still being practiced.
I like to end here with quotes which I have read today by St. Teresa. It's very encouraging and inspiring:
"I only wish to inform you that in order to profit by this path and ascend to the dwelling places we desire, the important thing is not to think much but to love much; and so do that which best stirs you to love. Perhaps we don't know what love is. I wouldn't be very surprised, because it doesn't consist in great delight but in desiring with strong determination to please God in everything, in striving, insofar as possible, not to offend Him, and in asking Him for the advancement of the honour and glory of His Son and the increase of the [Church]. These are the signs of love....." - St. Teresa of Avila(1515-1582)
The life and activities of the Iban longhouse people of Sarawak.
Teaching the children to sing praises and plant the seed of love is what expressed in their faces shown here.

Traditional ritual(Saduk Hari) and celebration to thank their Iban(non christian)god.
                                                                              The altar of worship.
This is the pretty Iban girl who has attained good results in her
secondary education(Form V) and which her parents celebrated for her.

Mother Nature - Our Forest

I watched the film 'Avatar' and it gives me imagination and amusement what human beings can do to civilization. It is a science fiction film and the film is set in the year 2154, when humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on Pandora, a lush moon of gas giant in the Apha Centaur star system. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na'vi - a humanoid species indigenous of Pandora. The film's title refer to the genetically engineered Na'vi and human hybrid bodies used by several human characters to interact with the natives of Pandora.
In the film, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to the planet, Pandora. There he learns of greedy coporate figurehead Parker Selfridge's intentions of driving off the native humanoid "Na'vi" in order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich woodland. In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, Jake gathers intel for the cooperating military unit spearheaded by gung-ho Colonel Quaritch, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate the Na'vi people with the use of an 'Avatar' identity. While Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri, the restless extermination tactics, forcing the solier to take a stand and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora.
Okay, back to reality on our present day earth, we can still enjoy the fresh air and our natural environment given to us by mother nature until such a time when we will fully depend on technology for survival and other planets for colonization. Possible? Yes, part of it is already happening and the race is on. Human induced problems.
The photos here are of the Lambir hills National Park which is located along the Miri-Bintulu some 30km south of Miri city. It covers of about 6,952 hectares and the forest consists a variety of trees, flora and fauna shrubs. It's a recreational, educational ground for nature lovers and for children to understand, appreciate nature and the importance of our eco system on this earth. This forest reserve is handled by Sarawak Forest Department and they charged an entry fee(adult) RM10.00. I personally think it should be waived for the benefit of the locals. There are also accommodation, forest lodge and other amenities for tourists who want to spend the night there.

People's Passion.

Last Saturday evening I attended Pastor Connie wedding feast at Permyjaya Methodist Church. A drama was performed for the audiences and guests there. The group in the drama did it very well considering the show they have putted up. This Mandarin speaking drama group really utilize the youth resources and put their creativity and talents into good use. They all did it with grace and passion.
Pastor Connie's husband, a pastor himself, is newly appointed for the Permyjaya Methodist Church transferred to Miri from Bintulu recently. Pastor Connie is preaching at the Senadin Methodist Campus Gospel Centre.
